About the Book:

In one part of the Wide World lies a beautiful White City, where magic has been forgotten because its price is so high. Beyond the White City roam enormous living ships called Tartals, sea monsters and spelltraps, pirates and dysfunctional dragons. Young Conjurer Byron June succeeds where his father failed: he transforms an ordinary rooster into the greatest of legendary creatures: a Fire Gryphon. But Humphrée doesn’t turn out quite the way Byron expected. He's undersized and homely, and spews smoke and rocks instead of flames. Byron's naive use of magic alerts the immortal Magister Kybalion, the evil wizard who deceived Byron's father and murdered his mother. Humphrée's birth is immediately overshadowed by the arrival of a creature far older and stranger: Lumiere the great Tartal - the last of his kind. Enslaved by Kybalion, who destroyed the great Tartals in his quest for all magic, Lumiere calls Byron and two other young Conjurers to help free him and save their world.
